The professional career of Derek Jeter began in 1992 when Hal Newhouser, a scout of the baseball team “Houston Astros”, recruited him for the 1992 Minor League Baseball (MLB) Draft. However, due to the high base price of Derek, the team dropped him. Being quite familiar with Derek’s talent, Hal left the team as a mark of protest for not recruiting Derek. Later, the “New York Yankees” signed Derek for $800,000. From 1992 to 1995, he played four seasons in MLB. In his first match, while playing for “Gulf Coast Yankees”, he didn’t perform well and kept struggling for the rest of the matches as well.
Despite such performance, his team manager gave him a chance in the season’s final, so that his average score doesn’t fall below the “Mendoza Line”. The Yankees then promoted Derek to the “Greensboro Hornets” team, but even there his performance remained average. Soon, Derek began to be bombarded with questions on his performance with many branding him as a lost star.

His performance in the 1994 season made him the most valuable player of the “Florida State League” (FSL). After the 1995 season, as his rank went up to the 4th position in the “Baseball America”, the “Yankees” projected him as the starting shortstop player. In the following season of 1996, he started on the opening day and became the second Yankee rookie to start as a shortstop after Tom Tresh who did so in 1962. For the entire season, he played well and pushed the “Yankees” to win the 1996 World Series. From 1997 to 2013, apart from a few injuries, Derek Jeter continued to achieve renewed heights, both for himself and his team.
On 12 February 2014, he posted on his Facebook wall that the 2014 season will be his last season.
